A Century of Fishing Heritage

All about Abigail sport fishing

Why Abigail Sport Fishing?

Abigail Sport Fishing was born with Captain Pablo Aripez, a third-generation local fisherman with currently 50 years. Like many local fishermen, there is a tradition of naming your boat after your daughter or wife — a symbol of motivation, hard work, and good luck at sea. For this reason, Captain Pablo Aripez proudly named his boat after his first daughter: Abigail. Pablo was born and raised in La Playa, the fishing village where the San José del Cabo Marina stands today. Alongside his father and 3 brothers, Ricardo, Antonio and Efren. Pablo represents a long family tradition of fishing in this area.

By the 1980s sportfishing tourism from California transformed the region. The Aripez family guiding anglers from sandy beaches and later from the sport fishing marina of San José del Cabo. Those early days of guiding first-time marlin, dorado, wahoo and tuna anglers shaped how we welcome guests In these days.

Today, Abigail Sport Fishing, also known as La Playa Fishing Charters, is a Local fleet operated by Pablo Aripez Jr, son of Captain Pablo Aripez. The fleet includes more than 10 boats of different sizes, offering fishing trips, vacuum pack service, transportation, taxidermy and whale watching.

Every captain and crew member in our fleet is a local fisherman from our town La Playa. We are not just a business — we are a family. Within our team you’ll find cousins, uncles, brothers, brothers-in-law, and even fathers-in-law. That strong family bond creates a welcoming atmosphere that makes every trip special.

Fishing with Abigail Sport Fishing is more than just a trip — it’s an authentic local experience you’ll truly enjoy.
